On September 1st, Nvidia held a special event from the kitchen of the company's president, Jensen Huang. The focus of the stream was entirely on the new 30 series GeForce graphics cards and the accompanying technologies. At the beginning, we saw the progress of computer graphics over the last 21 years, and specifically in gaming, which was linked to the PR campaign - #UltimateCountdown, which took place over the past 21 days.
Computer gaming is big business these days, in fact, it is bigger than ever, and the development of the eSport scene is phenomenal, as Huang noted. But he had no intention of talking about budget eSport systems and components. Instead, he focused on professionals for whom milliseconds matter. Reducing latency is so important that it could be the big difference that motivates pro players to buy the best graphics card to gain an advantage.
On the topic of gaming, Huang presented a whole list of innovations in the industry. Here they are in the order of announcement:
- Fortnite RTX comes with ray tracing for shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion. It will also support DLSS 2.0.
- Nvidia "Reflex" - a technology for reducing latency, through driver-level support. Expected later this month.
- The new 360Hz G-Sync monitors from Acer, Alienware, Asus, and MSI will allow you to connect your mouse directly to the monitor.
- Especially for streamers - Nvidia "Broadcast". By using AI algorithms for noise removal, autofocus, automatic object tracking, as well as background blur effects, and even completely changing it without the need for a green screen. It will arrive for every RTX card, even those from the 20 series.
- Nvidia "Omniverse Machinima" - a tool that leverages the power of RTX to aid in game development, especially from smaller "indie" developers. Some of its advantages include the ability to create facial animations just from read-aloud text and more.
- "Marbles" - RTX technology demo that "runs" 4 times better on Ampere compared to Turing cards from the previous generation. This time the scenes are much more complex and rendered at 1440p at 30 fps, compared to 720p and 25 fps on the previous generation cards.
- Nvidia RTX IO - in short, a new technology that eliminates the "bottleneck" in data storage/compression, with the connection made directly between the GPU and PCI-E GEN4 NVMe drive, without the need for the information to pass through the CPU and RAM beforehand.

In the middle of the presentation, it was time for hardware revelations. The first of the new cards shown was the RTX 3080 as the flagship of the new RTX Ampere generation in the consumer class. It features 8704 CUDA cores and a 1.71GHz boost frequency. The card's memory is 10GB of the new fast GDDR6X version VRAM. The announced price was $699 (official price for the USA), and the date it will hit the market is September 17th.
The next card that "the man in the leather jacket" showed us was the GeForce RTX 3070. The card that is presented as the "golden mean" in gaming. The interesting part in this case was that it was compared to the previous "flagship" - RTX 2080 Ti. The claim is that we will get the same (or even higher) performance of a "$1200 graphics card at under half the price". The RTX 3070 has a "modest" 5888 CUDA cores, 1.73GHz boost frequency, and 8GB of memory, but this time GDDR6. Its price will start at $500 (for the USA), and sales will begin sometime in October.
Last, but certainly not least, we saw the so-called "BFGPU" - the monstrous RTX 3090. Clearly, it is positioned as a true replacement for the previous Titan cards. For wealthier individuals who do not tolerate compromises, this card will be the ideal choice for gaming and work. As for the first (gaming), Nvidia claims it will have enough power to play AAA games at... 8K resolution at 60fps. Compared to its predecessor, the Titan RTX, here we will have up to 50% more performance at 4K, and the new cooling design promises the card to be "up to 10 times quieter and up to 30°C cooler.
This behemoth features an incredible 10496 CUDA cores, a boost frequency of 1.70GHz, and a massive 24GB GDDR6X memory. The price... At first glance, it is quite (to put it mildly) high, namely $1499. However, if we compare it with the previous Titan, which was $2500, we see that there is also a serious "reduction" in prices here. The card is expected to hit the market on September 24th.
