Batteries power remote controls, watches, flashlights, alarms, toys, hearing aids, and many other small devices at home. It is always good to have spare batteries of the most commonly used sizes, so you don't run out of a remote or detector. Here you can find alkaline and lithium batteries, button batteries, rechargeable batteries, and special batteries for alarms, cameras, and tools, from Duracell, Varta, Energizer, GP, Panasonic, Maxell, and other brands.
How to choose
- Size and code. It is safest to take a battery with the same code as the old one – for example AA (LR6), AAA (LR03), CR2032, or 23A. The code is printed on the battery itself.
- Chemistry. Alkaline batteries are universal and cheap for most devices. Lithium batteries last longer, are lighter, and work well in cold conditions. Silver and zinc-air batteries are for watches and hearing aids.
- Rechargeable or battery. For devices that consume a lot of energy – controllers, flashlights, toys, wireless mice – Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are more economical because they can be charged hundreds of times.
- Capacity. For rechargeable batteries, higher mAh means longer operation between charges. Low self-discharge models retain their charge for months.
- Voltage. Standard AA and AAA batteries are 1.5 V, rechargeable batteries are 1.2 V, and lithium button batteries are 3 V. Most devices work with 1.2 V without problems.
What to watch out for
- Do not mix old and new or different types of batteries in one device.
- Keep button batteries away from children – swallowing them is dangerous.
- Remove batteries from devices that you will not use for a long time to prevent leakage.
- Packs with more batteries are more economical for frequently used sizes like AA and AAA.
- Depleted batteries should be disposed of in special containers, not in regular trash.
Compatibility
If you do not know the code, open the cover and read the label on the old battery or in the device's manual. For rechargeable batteries, you need a suitable charger for Ni-MH. If you are looking for a battery for a laptop, check the separate category laptop batteries, and for charging a phone on the go – external batteries.
