The pump moves the liquid through the entire water loop, and its stable operation depends on it. Here you will find D5 and DDC pumps, combined pumps with a reservoir, pump tops, and spare motors from leading manufacturers of water cooling. A good pump runs quietly for years and requires almost no maintenance if the loop is clean.
How to choose
- D5 or DDC. D5 pumps are quiet, have a high flow rate, and a very long lifespan – suitable for large loops. DDC are more compact and have higher pressure, convenient for small cases, but heat up more and require good case cooling.
- Pump with reservoir. The combination saves space, makes filling and bleeding easier, and is the most convenient choice for the first loop.
- Control. PWM-controlled pumps change their speed according to the load. Connect them to a motherboard connector that supports pumps.
- The top. It determines where the inlet and outlet are and how the pump is mounted. A removable top allows for a different look or layout.
- Lighting. Some pumps and reservoirs have ARGB lighting that synchronizes with the other components.
- The size of the loop. A quality pump is sufficient for a processor, graphics card, and two radiators. Two pumps in series are only for very large loops.
What to watch out for
- Never run the pump without liquid – even a brief dry run can damage it.
- The reservoir must be above the pump inlet to avoid sucking in air.
- Mount the pump on rubber pads or a stand to reduce vibrations.
- The spare motor must be of the same type as the top.
- When filling, power only the pump, not the entire computer.
Compatibility
Pumps use a standard G1/4 thread and work with parts from all brands. D5 motors do not fit into DDC tops and vice versa, so be careful with the type when replacing. For mounting in the case, see the brackets in water cooling accessories, and for a separate reservoir – reservoirs. You will find a complete loop in kits. Connect the pump's power supply to a connector that provides full voltage or is labeled for pumps, so it does not stop at low temperatures.
