The smartphone and tablet are the devices we use most often during the day – for calls, photos, navigation, reading, and entertainment. In this category, there are phones and tablets from Samsung, Lenovo, TCL, Blackview, Nokia, Apple, and other brands – from simple models for children and adults to flagships with foldable screens.
How to choose
- Screen size. Phones with around 6.7 inches are comfortable for video and games, while smaller ones are used with one hand. Tablets with 8 inches are light for reading, while 10–13 inches are better for movies, studying, and work.
- Built-in memory. 128 GB is enough for most people, but if you shoot a lot of video, get 256 GB or more. Check if there is a memory card slot.
- RAM. 6–8 GB provides smooth operation for everyday applications, while 12 GB and more are for gaming and many open programs.
- The display. AMOLED screens have deep blacks and bright colors, and a refresh rate of 90 or 120 Hz makes scrolling smoother.
- The camera. The number of megapixels doesn't say everything – the sensor size, optical stabilization, and photo processing matter more, especially in low light. If you shoot a lot, compare video quality as well.
- Durability. Rugged models withstand shocks, dust, and water and are suitable for outdoor work.
What to watch out for
- Check how many years the manufacturer promises system and security updates.
- Tablets are available in versions with only Wi-Fi or with a SIM card for mobile internet.
- Check if the phone supports 5G and mobile frequencies in Bulgaria if it is imported from another market.
- Powerful fast charging works only with a compatible charger and cable.
- For children, there are tablets with parental control and protective cases.
- Foldable phones are the most compact in your pocket, but require more careful handling of the screen.
Accessories
For the new device, you often need a fast charger, as many phones are now sold without one, an external battery for a long day outside, and wireless headphones. If you use the tablet for work, a Bluetooth keyboard turns it into a small laptop. For more security, put on a protective glass and case from day one, as the screen is the most expensive part to repair.
