Clear filtersUseful when choosing
The external battery gives you extra charging for your phone, tablet, headphones, or even laptop when there is no outlet nearby. It is useful on the go, on hikes, at festivals, and on any day when the phone cannot last until the evening. Here you will find models from HAMA, Xiaomi, Silicon Power, Adata, Canyon, and others – from small pocket batteries to large models for travel and camping.
How to choose
- The capacity. 5000 mAh is enough for one charge of a phone and fits in your pocket. 10,000 mAh is the most convenient balance for everyday use. 20,000 mAh and more are for travel, multiple devices, or tablets.
- The outputs. USB-C is the standard for new phones and laptops. If you have older devices, choose a model with USB-A as well, to charge two devices at once.
- Fast charging. Power Delivery and Quick Charge charge the phone several times faster. Check which standard your phone supports.
- The power for laptops. For a laptop with USB-C, you need a battery with an output of at least 45–65 W and a large capacity.
- The indication. The display or LEDs show how much charge is left. A digital display with percentages is more accurate and helps avoid being surprised by a dead battery.
- Wireless and magnetic charging. Some models charge the phone without a cable or attach magnetically to its back.
What to watch out for
- In reality, about two-thirds of the declared capacity reaches the phone due to losses during conversion.
- On the plane, external batteries are only carried in hand luggage, and there are restrictions for very large ones.
- A battery that you do not use for a long time should be charged every few months.
- The weight increases with capacity – 20,000 mAh are no longer for your pocket.
- Avoid leaving the battery in the sun in the car, as heat shortens the lifespan of the cells.
Compatibility
External batteries charge any device that charges via USB. For full speed, use a cable that supports the required power, and charge the battery with a fast charger. If you want to charge wireless headphones or smartwatch, check if the battery has a low current mode.
