MSI Z790 GAMING PLUS WIFI is an ATX motherboard for LGA 1700, aimed at mid-range to high-end gaming and workstation configurations. It is based on the Intel Z790 chipset and supports 14th, 13th, and 12th generation Intel Core, as well as next-gen LGA1700 processors. It works with DDR5 memory up to 7200+ MHz (OC), giving you serious potential for fast RAM. The built-in WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and 2.5GbE LAN make it a pretty complete solution without the need for additional cards.

What you get is a platform with modern I/O and enough room for expansions. With 4 RAM slots and a maximum of 192 GB DDR5, you can build both a heavy workstation and a long-term gaming build without worrying about upgrading the motherboard anytime soon. The four M.2 slots (one directly from the CPU, the others from the chipset) allow for multiple NVMe SSDs – convenient if you use separate drives for games, work, and recordings. The PCIe 5.0 x16 slot from the processor provides a current standard for modern GPUs, while the additional PCIe slots are convenient for sound, capture cards, or other expansions. Through 6 x SATA3 and RAID 0/1/5/10, you can connect classic HDDs/SSDs and set up either a fast or more secure storage array.

The board uses LGA 1700 socket and Intel Z790 chipset, making it suitable for 14th, 13th, and 12th generation Intel Core, as well as next-generation LGA1700 CPUs.
Support for DDR5 memory up to 7200+ MHz (OC) with 4 slots and a total capacity of up to 192 GB gives you room for fast RAM and serious multitasking.
Dual-channel memory improves bandwidth compared to single-channel configurations, which helps in both gaming and productivity.
4 x M.2 slots (one PCIe 4.0 x4 from the CPU and three PCIe 4.0/SATA from the chipset) allow flexible combinations of NVMe and SATA SSDs with various device lengths.
6 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s with support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 are good for large storage volume – both for gaming and for archives and backups.
1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slot from the CPU, along with additional PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, provide space for a powerful GPU and additional cards.
The built-in WiFi 6E (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.3, and Intel 2.5GbE LAN give you the choice between fast wired and modern wireless connectivity.
Realtek ALC897 7.1-Channel High Definition Audio provides decent multi-channel sound for gaming and movies without the need for an external sound card.
24-pin + 2 x 8-pin power connectors provide stable power to the CPU and motherboard, useful for more powerful processors and overclocking.

Who is this motherboard suitable for? If you are pursuing a serious Intel build with DDR5, a strong GPU, and several NVMe SSDs – for gaming at high settings, streaming, and productivity, you have a good base here. It is also suitable for workstations with a large RAM capacity and plenty of storage. If you are looking for the cheapest LGA1700 solution or do not need DDR5 and PCIe 5.0, this board may be more than you need.

The combination of Z790, DDR5, PCIe 5.0 x16, four M.2 slots, and built-in WiFi 6E + 2.5GbE makes MSI Z790 GAMING PLUS WIFI a balanced core for a modern, long-term Intel build.
