AMD has released the new version of StoreMI, namely V2, which officially now supports the company's 400-series chipsets in the form of X470 and B450. Initially, only the high-end X570 motherboards were supported, but with the promise that by the end of the year there would be an expansion of the motherboard set, including older models. Here, AMD is already fulfilling the promise to release StoreMI V2 for the cheaper boards. The software is completely free and is quite useful for owners of budget machines, who usually use the B450 chipset and have small SSD + hard disk configurations.
StoreMI is a solution that allows you to "bind" SSD and hard disk (or slower and faster SSD) into a single common virtual drive. The software moves data between different devices by analyzing the most frequently used files and prioritizing them on the faster disk. The effect of this system is that it combines the low cost and large space of the hard disk with the speed of the SSD, leading to faster operation of the entire system - faster booting, loading (in games), etc.
The initial version of the AMD program had some known issues, such as the fact that it did not keep copies when moving information from the slower hard disk/SSD to the faster one. Thus, theoretically, the full capacity of both components could be used, but in case of failure, it could lead to data loss for the information stored on the fast component.
StoreMI V2 addresses this drawback by timely using a caching system that copies all information from the slower to the faster device. This limits the usable space to the capacity of the slower disk, but it is a much safer method. Thus, in case of failure with the virtual partition, you will not lose valuable information.
