Computer configuration Green Hornet

Today we will tell you a little more about the Green Hornet build that we recently finalized. 

At the end of December, we were contacted by our client through our Discord server, asking us to assemble a build with custom water cooling, as he had seen our Cyberpunk build. This happened just before the holidays, and we decided to start working on this configuration in January. When the client visited our shop to finalize the details around the build, we were pleasantly surprised because he had done very detailed research, had outlined most of the components, and had a clear vision of how he wanted the machine to look, namely entirely in black and green. This made our task much easier, as we were able to focus on the intricacies of assembling the machine itself and, most importantly, the proper planning and creation of the water cooling.

Initially, we had settled on the case Lian Li O-11 Dynamic, but later the client chose the Thermaltake P8.

We started securing all the parts, which turned out to be a complex process, mainly due to the situation with the extremely limited availability of graphics cards. In the meantime, we procured the other components, including those for the machine's water cooling. Some of the components were ordered from abroad, including the block for the card. Unfortunately, there is still no import of such for AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT in Bulgaria.

Once all the components were in front of us, we began the fun part - creating the Green Hornet. 

Many people think that building a complete cooling system in a large case is easier, but this choice also comes with its challenges. Creating the pipes and the paths they need to take is a risky moment in creating such a configuration (not for us ;) ). It is extremely important for the pipes to be bent with perfect accuracy; otherwise, we risk them “bending,” and no enthusiast would want to see such a mistake in their high-end build. Of course, the process of achieving perfectly straight paths and good angles required multiple measurements, calculations, and a few broken EK-HD PETG Tube 12/16mm 1000mm tubes before successfully installing all 17 fittings, from the EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE300 pump with reservoir to the blocks and radiators.

Another particular moment was the fabrication of one of the smaller tubes that connects the water block of the processor to that of the graphics card. Due to the specifics of the EK-Quantum Velocity D-RGB, we had to use its right opening to connect it, while for the EK-Quantum Vector (the block of the card) - the left one. This created a certain degree of inconvenience and required more specific bending, which took more time than expected.

Despite the enormous size, cable management in the P8 was also a challenge. Not only because it is extremely heavy, but also due to the large number of RGB fans. We installed a total of 13 Thermaltake Pure 12 ARGB fans, which come with two very long connectors - one for PWM control of the speeds and one for controlling the lighting.

Custom water build

Next was the installation of the top radiator, and here we also had considerations. Due to the tight space between it and the Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming motherboard, installing it was not easy. The reason - the decorative elements on its VRM coolers and the position of the power connector for the Ryzen 9 5900X that we placed on it. If we had chosen a thicker radiator (at 45mm or 60mm), we definitely would not have been able to install it. We deliberately settled on the EK-CoolStream PE 360, which is 38mm thick. It fit perfectly!

Overall, the Green Hornet was an extremely pleasant build to assemble, despite all the challenges it brought us, and the final result satisfied both us and its new owner. 

When the client came to our store in Sofia at ul. Maragidik 37 and saw his machine, the first thing he said was that it was exactly what he had envisioned. After that sentence, we knew our mission was more than successfully accomplished.
