In the previous article, we mentioned the new Ryzen 4000 budget processors from AMD. This time we will talk about the rest of the processors that were recently released by the company.
After a long wait from the fans, AMD finally decided it was time to expand the range of the already 2-year-old 5000 series, based on the latest released Zen 3 architecture. So far, we have had 6 models:
- AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
- AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
The first processor from the new additions is Ryzen 7 5700X. In practice, it is quite similar to the well-known to enthusiasts Ryzen 7 5800X, but with some differences. The relatively cheaper R7 5700X again has 8 cores and 16 threads, but the difference mainly comes from slightly lower frequencies - 3.4GHz base and 4.6 boost. Another important detail is that, thanks to them, the TDP is now only 65W, unlike the 105-watt 5800X.
However, the similarity is that like its bigger brother, the 5700X does not come equipped with a boxed cooler, which means you will need to purchase a separate one, and the absence of the letter G in its name suggests that a separate graphics card will also be needed.
Similar to the above model, the "pure" Ryzen 5 5600 is practically almost the same as the X version, but again with slightly reduced frequencies - 3.5GHz base and 4.4GHz boost. Again, we have 6 cores and 12 threads, the well-known 32MB L3 cache, and still 65W TDP. And of course - the boxed Wraith Stealth cooler, which honestly, we think comes a bit "weak" for this processor and is a bit noisier. Therefore, we recommend looking for aftermarket cooling solutions.
Personally, we believe that Ryzen 7 5700X and Ryzen 5 5600 are great alternatives to Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X respectively, especially considering the extremely small differences in performance compared to the original models, and the much more pleasant price. Both models are absolutely adequate for even the most serious games, regardless of the resolution at which you play. They can easily be combined with graphics cards like RX 6800 XT or RTX 3080 and will not let you down.
Moreover, if you need to work on video or photo editing software but are not a professional and do not want to invest a large sum of money - these two processors will also do a perfect job for you.
It is time to talk about the smallest brother in the family, namely Ryzen 5 5500. You would hardly be surprised if we tell you that it is also quite similar to the well-known processor - Ryzen 5 5600G. The main difference this time is that it does not have integrated graphics.
Here are the more important details. Typical for processors of its class, it has 6 cores and 12 threads. Its base frequency is 3.6GHz, and the boost frequency reaches up to 4.2GHz. Unlike its Ryzen 4000 counterparts, here we have a bit more cache memory - 19MB L3 and 3MB L2. The TDP is 65W, which is also typical. It is important to note that it only supports PCIe 3.0. This processor also comes with the Wraith Stealth cooler that we have mentioned several times already.
As a more budget processor, it would be best combined with graphics cards like RX 6600 or RTX 3060.

A few words about compatibility. As we mentioned in the previous article, the current processors from the 4000 and 5000 series can now be installed on almost any motherboard that supports Ryzen, including the oldest 300 series chipsets (A320, B350, X370). However, it is necessary to update their BIOS to the latest version. Also, keep in mind that the Ryzen 4000 series, as well as the Ryzen 5 5500, only support PCIe up to version 3.0. If you need 4.0 support, it is advisable to look towards one of the higher-class processors, and the motherboards should have a B550 or X570 chipset.
