The previous record of 9.0 GHz has been surpassed
The current generation of processors arrived with quite minor improvements and slightly higher frequencies compared to the previous 13th generation. However, combined with the improved Z790 motherboards , it created interesting opportunities for extreme overclocking, which were demonstrated by the OC team of Asus ROG. In the laboratories of Asus, overclocking experts SkatterBencher, Elmor, Shamino, and Bing collaborate to "push" Core i9-14900K and achieve record frequencies, raising the bar even higher.
To achieve a frequency of 9.1 GHz, the team used liquid helium. This cooling method has recently been gaining popularity over liquid nitrogen in extreme overclocking. The endeavor took a week and produced multiple world records. Unfortunately, not all could be validated by CPU-Z. The software developers confirmed that with the release of the 14th generation processors, some overclockers attempted to manipulate CPU-Z to artificially validate inflated frequencies. The good news is that the programmers behind CPU-Z managed to detect the artificial results and invalidate them, thus preserving the reliability of the validation process. Nevertheless, Elmor's team managed to achieve a legitimate world record that is recognized.
Using the ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore, Asus's latest overclocking motherboard, the team was able to achieve the impressive frequency of 9043.92 MHz, thus surpassing 9 GHz for the second time and receiving an officially validated result from CPU-Z. This eliminates any doubts.
The achieved result is the highest recorded frequency in the history of desktop processors, which is also confirmed by the HWBOT leaderboard. Unfortunately, the impressive 9.1 GHz achieved in one of the attempts could not be officially validated due to a technical issue that will be resolved in the near future.
Elmor and his team once again secure a place in the top rankings of HWBOT, surpassing their previous record from last year, achieved with the 13th generation processor. With this, they demonstrate their consistency at the top of the extreme overclocking rankings.
