It seems that the successor to the 6-core Ryzen 5 7600X3D is already on the horizon. AMD indirectly confirmed the new model after it appeared in the list of supported processors on the driver page for the new professional graphics card Radeon AI PRO R9700. The processor is listed alongside the 9950X3D, 9900X3D, and 9800X3D. This fourth version is expected to have fewer cores than the 9800X3D.
As some new games already require a minimum of 8 cores, investing in a 6-core chip — especially from the X3D series aimed at gaming — may require more careful consideration. Unfortunately, it is difficult to assess the popularity of the previous model, as the Ryzen 5 7600X3D was not widely available at most retailers. However, independent tests have shown that it surprisingly comes very close to the highly rated 8-core 7800X3D.
As with the Zen 4 series, the 9600X3D is expected to use an 8-core chiplet, with two cores deactivated. No changes are expected in the I/O module, which will likely retain the integrated graphics — unlike another upcoming model, the Ryzen 7 9700F, which lacks iGPU support.
The total cache on the 9600X3D will be only slightly smaller than that on the 9800X3D. The processor will include 64MB of second-generation 3D V-Cache – just like the 8-core variant. However, due to the deactivated two cores, the L2 cache will be reduced by 2MB.
The first rumors about this model appeared back in December 2024. It seems that the chip was planned from the very beginning, so its appearance is not surprising. More surprising is how long it took for its actual release.
