Kepler reports new information regarding the support for the next generation graphics from AMD. According to a post on X, the new generation will support up to 80 Gbit/s via HDMI 2.2. This confirms that RDNA5 or UDNA (depending on which name AMD chooses) will support the new HDMI standard and will offer higher bandwidth than the current implementation – although not double, as HDMI 2.1 supports 48 Gbit/s.
RDNA5 graphics processors are expected to support two modes – 64 and 80 Gbit/s, which suggests that the highest mode of 96 Gbit/s will not be supported. It is unclear whether support for this mode will be added later or if this is a hardware limitation of the new architecture.
Kepler also confirmed that there is still no information regarding support for DisplayPort 2.1b for the GFX13 architecture. This standard was announced in January, along with HDMI 2.2, and does not increase the maximum bandwidth, but introduces support for certified cables capable of supporting 80 Gbit/s over longer distances. This standard is already supported by NVIDIA – in the RTX PRO Blackwell and the GeForce RTX 50 series.
It is worth noting that the information shared by Kepler does not differentiate between the Radeon RX and PRO series. The update only pertains to the display engine GFX13, which may use the same configuration in both product lines – or it may not. In the past, AMD has limited performance over DisplayPort 2.1 in the RX series, supporting only UHBR13.5 (54 Gbit/s), while the professional variants support the full 80 Gbit/s.
