Powerline adapters

Useful when choosing
Powerline adapters transmit the internet through the electrical installation in the home – you plug one next to the router, and the other into a socket in a distant room, and you get a network without running cables. Here you will find Powerline kits with network ports and Wi-Fi, as well as other network adapters for PoE power supply and wireless connections.
How to choose
- Speed. Values like 600, 1000, or 1800 Mbps are the theoretical speed through the installation. The actual speed is lower and depends on the condition and length of the wiring.
- Standard. HomePlug AV2 is the newer and faster standard and often uses all three conductors in the socket for a more stable connection. Adapters from different standards do not always work together.
- Wi-Fi. Models with Wi-Fi create a wireless network in the room where they are plugged in – convenient for phones and laptops in distant parts of the home.
- Appliance socket. Adapters with a built-in socket do not take up the socket – you can plug another device into them.
- Ports. Gigabit ports are for full speed, and models with two ports allow connecting a TV and a console simultaneously.
What to watch out for
- Plug the adapters directly into a wall socket – using a power strip sharply reduces speed.
- The adapters must be on the same electrical network, usually within one apartment or house.
- Devices with powerful motors and cheap chargers on the same line can reduce speed.
- The starter kit contains two adapters, and more can be added to the network.
- Set your own password for encrypting the connection – this way neighbors cannot connect to your network.
- The light indicators on the adapter show the quality of the connection – use them to choose the most suitable socket.
Connection
One adapter is plugged into a socket near the router and connected to it with a network cable, while the second is in the room where you need the internet. The two pair by pressing a button for a few seconds, and then remember the connection even when the power is turned off. If there is a network cable to the rooms, an access point will provide higher and more stable speed. When cable and Powerline are not possible, a mesh system is an alternative.
