Description
ASUS PRIME Z890-P is an ATX motherboard for the new LGA 1851 socket and Intel Z890 chipset – aimed at mid/high-end gaming and workstation configurations with the new Intel Core Ultra processors. You get a modern DDR5 platform with four RAM slots and support for high frequencies, plus a serious set of M.2 and PCIe lanes for GPU and fast NVMe storage. The lack of built-in Wi-Fi is a deliberate choice – you rely on stable 2.5Gb Ethernet via cable or a separate Wi-Fi card. Overall, the board is aimed at people who want a current Intel platform, plenty of expansions, and flexibility in storage.
What you get
The LGA1851 socket and Intel Z890 chipset give you a base for the new generation of Intel Core Ultra processors – suitable for serious gaming, streaming, and productivity. The four DDR5 slots supporting up to 192 GB RAM and frequencies up to 8666+MT/s (OC) allow for heavy multitasking and future upgrades without changing the board. With a total of 4 x M.2 slots (one up to PCIe 5.0 x4 and three up to PCIe 4.0 x4, plus support for SATA in one of them) you can combine super-fast NVMe drives for OS/games and larger SATA/NVMe for mass storage. Add 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s ports with RAID 0/1/5/10 and you can easily organize both your gaming library and archives, work with large files, or a home server. For connectivity, you have a rich set of USB ports on the front and back, including USB 20Gbps Type-C with DP Alt Mode for fast transfer and connection to displays, while 2.5Gb LAN provides you with a fast and stable network.
- Support for Intel Core Ultra processors in LGA1851 socket – you are ready for the new generation of Intel CPUs without future limitations from the platform.
- Intel Z890 chipset and ATX form factor – more PCIe and M.2 slots and better distribution of connectors in the case.
- DDR5 memory with 4 slots, up to 192 GB and up to 8666+MT/s (OC) – enough capacity and frequency for high-end gaming, rendering, and working with heavy projects.
- Total of 4 x M.2 slots: one up to PCIe 5.0 x4 and three up to PCIe 4.0 x4 (one with SATA support) – flexibility for super-fast NVMe system disk plus additional NVMe/SATA storage modules.
- 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s with RAID 0/1/5/10 – you can build an array for speed, reliability, or a balance between the two according to your needs.
- Expansion slots: 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 for modern graphics card and 3 x PCIe 4.0 x16 (x4/x1) for additional cards – sound, capture, NVMe adapters, and others.
- Rich set of USB: on the back USB 20Gbps Type-C with DP Alt Mode, USB 10Gbps and 5Gbps Type-A + 4 x USB 2.0, on the front up to 9 USB ports with Type-C and additional headers – convenient for cases with many front connectors and peripherals.
- Realtek 7.1 Surround HD Audio – multichannel sound for games and movies, suitable for systems with more than two speakers or headphones with virtual surround.
- 1 x Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet – higher bandwidth than standard 1Gb LAN, useful for fast local transfers and online gaming with low latency.
- 1 x 24-pin + 2 x 8-pin power connectors – stable power supply for CPU and the entire system, especially under heavier load and overclocking.
Who it is suitable for
This motherboard is a good choice if you are planning a new build with Intel Core Ultra – for high frame rate gaming, streaming, video processing, or mixed productivity. It is also suitable for people who want a lot of fast storage (M.2 + SATA, RAID) and a stable gigabit+ network via cable. If you absolutely require built-in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, you will need to add a separate card and account for it in your budget and slots.
The strongest aspect here is the combination of the new LGA1851 / Z890, the rich M.2 and PCIe set, and serious DDR5 support – a solid foundation for a long-term, easily upgradeable Intel build.
