Description
Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC R2 is an mATX motherboard for socket AM4, aimed at stable mid-range Ryzen configurations without unnecessary extras. Based on the AMD B550 chipset, it provides you with a current platform for AMD Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series, plus the integrated G models. The built-in Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 save you a separate card, and the availability of PCIe 4.0 support depends on which exact Ryzen you will use. You get a balanced set of M.2, SATA, USB, and network for a compact but serious build.
What you get
Socket AM4 with B550 chipset means support for a wide range of processors – from Ryzen 3000 to Ryzen 5000, including APU series with integrated video (G-Series). With four DIMM slots for DDR4 and up to 128 GB RAM, you can scale from a basic gaming build to a machine for heavy multitasking. The memory supports up to 4733 MHz (OC), which is a plus if you want to squeeze the maximum out of the Ryzen controller. The two M.2 slots give you flexibility – one is connected to the CPU and can reach up to PCIe 4.0 x4 with the appropriate Ryzen, while the second connected to the chipset is ideal for an additional NVMe or SATA SSD. The built-in Wi-Fi 5 and Realtek GbE LAN cover both wireless and wired connections, so you have a choice of how to connect the machine to the network.
- Socket AM4 with AMD B550 chipset gives you support for Ryzen 5000/5000G/4000G/3000 desktop processors, which is a very good range for upgrades.
- Four slots for DDR4 memory and a maximum of 128 GB allow you to start with a small amount of RAM and later upgrade comfortably.
- Support for RAM up to 4733 MHz (OC) and dual-channel mode helps Ryzen processors achieve better performance in games and applications.
- Two M.2 slots (M2A_CPU and M2B_SB) support both SATA and PCIe NVMe SSDs, including PCIe 4.0 x4 with Ryzen 5000/3000 for the main slot.
- The main PCI Express x16 slot works up to PCIe 4.0 x16 with the appropriate CPU and is intended for a graphics card or NVMe adapter, making it important to install your only GPU there.
- Realtek ALC1220 audio chip provides better sound quality compared to basic solutions, which is a plus if you use better headphones or speakers.
- Built-in Wi‑Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0 give you ready wireless connectivity without additional cards or USB dongles.
- Wired network via Realtek GbE LAN (10/100/1000 Mbit) is a standard gigabit solution for stable connections during online gaming and work.
- Four SATA3 6.0 Gb/s ports with RAID 0/1/10 support are more than enough for several SSD/HDD drives and basic RAID configurations.
- USB configuration with 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 from the CPU on the back panel plus additional USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB Type‑C and USB 2.0 through the chipset covers your peripheral and fast transfer needs.
Who it is suitable for
This board is very suitable for compact gaming and all-round configurations with Ryzen 3000/5000, where you want a good combination of NVMe, Wi‑Fi, and enough RAM without chasing enthusiast OC. It is also suitable for work machines with many browser tabs, code, light renders, or streaming, thanks to the 4 RAM slots and stable connectivity. If you are looking for extras like multiple PCIe x16 slots or massive I/O for HEDT level, this is not the right platform.
The most meaningful thing here is the balance: AM4 + B550, two M.2 slots, quality Realtek ALC1220 sound, and built-in Wi‑Fi 5 in mATX format, allowing you to build a serious and flexible system in a smaller case.
