Description
Gigabyte Z890 AORUS PRO ICE is an ATX motherboard for the new generation Intel Core Ultra processors on socket LGA 1851, aimed at mid-to-high-end gaming and productivity configurations. It combines a modern Intel Z890 chipset with high-class connectivity – Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, and 5GbE LAN. Support for DDR5 memory up to 9500 MHz (O.C) and up to 256 GB capacity gives you serious potential for overclocking and heavy multitasking scenarios. You get a platform that is ready for fast GPUs, NVMe SSDs, and a lot of peripherals without worrying about bottlenecks from the motherboard.
What you get
LGA 1851 socket with support for Intel Core Ultra provides a base for the latest Intel CPUs, while the PCIe 5.0 x16 slot from the processor is prepared for the next generation of GPUs with high bandwidth. The four DDR5 slots with dual-channel mode and up to 256 GB RAM allow you to start with 32–64 GB for gaming, and later easily transition to serious configurations for rendering, virtual machines, or heavy software. The five M.2 slots (including one PCIe 5.0 and several PCIe 4.0, plus one with SATA support) give you the option to spread the system across separate NVMe for OS, games, and work, without relying on classic 2.5" SSDs. The built-in Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and 5GbE LAN cover all network options – from stable wired link for online gaming to ultra-fast wireless link for laptops and mobile devices. Realtek ALC1220 audio is a good choice if you want decent sound without immediately investing in a separate sound card.
- Socket LGA 1851 with support for Intel Core Ultra processors – ready for the latest Intel CPUs and a long-term upgrade path.
- Intel Z890 chipset – unlocked overclocking capabilities and rich connectivity for high-end gaming and productivity.
- 4 DDR5 slots, dual-channel mode, up to 256 GB, and frequencies up to 9500 MHz (O.C) for high bandwidth and reserve for future upgrades.
- 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slot from CPU + additional PCIe 4.0 x16 (x4) and x16 (x1) from the chipset for powerful main GPU and additional cards.
- 5 x M.2 slots (PCIe 5.0 and 4.0, plus one with SATA support) and 4 x SATA3 ports with RAID 0/1/5/10 for flexible combinations of NVMe and 2.5"/3.5" storage.
- Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Realtek 5GbE LAN – from super-fast wired internet to the latest generation of wireless connectivity.
- A rich set of USB: 2 x Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C), internal USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, multiple USB 3.2 Gen 2/Gen 1 and USB 2.0 for all peripheral devices.
- Realtek ALC1220 audio for clear and detailed sound in games, movies, and voice communication without the need for an immediate upgrade.
- 1 x 24-pin + 2 x 8-pin power connectors – stable power supply to CPU and motherboard during serious overclocking.
Who it is suitable for
This board is suitable if you are planning a serious LGA 1851 build for 1440p/4K gaming, streaming, and heavy applications, and want a stable base with many M.2, fast RAM, and modern network connectivity. It is also suitable for workstation-type configurations that rely on a lot of RAM and several NVMe drives. If you are looking for a maximum budget board without the need for Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4, or PCIe 5.0, you will likely pay for extras that you will not use.
The combination of LGA 1851, PCIe 5.0 x16, five M.2 slots, and Wi-Fi 7/5GbE makes Gigabyte Z890 AORUS PRO ICE a very serious foundation for a long-term high-end build that will not feel outdated after a few years.
