The processor that proved cache is more important than frequency in games

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is an 8-core processor for socket AM5 featuring AMD's 3D V-Cache technology. An additional layer of cache memory is placed on top of the cores, bringing the total Level 3 cache to 96 MB. This is three times more than the standard Ryzen 7 7700. In games, this is felt more than any gigahertz: the processor waits less often for data from RAM, frames are more consistent, and minimum FPS is higher.

Since its release, the 7800X3D has been one of the most recommended processors for gaming and remains an excellent choice to this day, especially if you want near-top performance at a more reasonable price.

Who it is suitable for

• Gamers with 144–240 Hz monitors who want high and stable frames in competitive games (CS2, Valorant, Fortnite) and in CPU-heavy games (strategy, simulators, MMO).
• Graphics cards of the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, RX 9070 XT class and above — the 7800X3D will not bottleneck them.
• It is not the best choice for purely professional work (rendering, compiling, video editing). There, 12- and 16-core Ryzen 9 processors are faster.

7800X3D, 7700X3D or 9800X3D?

Ryzen 7 7700X3D is the same processor with a lower maximum frequency (4.5 instead of 5.0 GHz) and is a few percent slower in games. Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the successor — it is faster mainly at 1080p with the most powerful graphics cards. At 1440p and 4K, the differences decrease because the graphics card becomes the bottleneck. If the budget is limited, the price difference is often better spent on a better graphics card.

Can I overclock it?

Manual multiplier overclocking is locked. You can use Curve Optimizer in the BIOS for lower temperatures and slightly higher frequencies.

Does it have integrated graphics?

Yes, basic AMD Radeon graphics. It is sufficient for work and system checks, but not for games.

Will I be able to change the processor later without a new motherboard?
