AMD skips the X700 chipsets

Both Intel and AMD are preparing to launch their new series of desktop processors codenamed Granite Ridge. The exact name for the Ryzen series has not yet been confirmed, but Gigabyte mentioned in a press release that it will most likely be called Ryzen 9000. However, considering the rumors about numerous naming changes for Strix Point (mobile Zen 5 platform), nothing is certain at this stage.

 

 

Whatever the name of the new series of processors, according to confirmed information, the company has already chosen the 800 series for its new chipsets. This means that AMD will completely skip the 700 series and the successor to the current high-end chipset X670 will be X870. In other words, AMD and Intel will release motherboards from the 800 series, but each will have a completely different socket and logically, will support different processors. Clearly, AMD does not want to appear "behind" by naming its next generation chipsets the 700 series.

The media received a new motherboard B650E AORUS PRO X USB4, which, according to publications, meets the specifications of AMD X870 motherboards. It includes some interesting features, such as the reinforced PCIe slot that supports up to 58 kg.

As for the recent changes in AMD product naming, it has become clear that the company is also working on a completely new scheme for its mobile chips. It is reported that the Ryzen 9050 series, codenamed Strix Point, will launch as Ryzen AI 300. Clearly, AMD is undergoing a lot of restructuring at the moment and the outcome could be very surprising.
