Description
ASRock A620AM PRO-A is an AM5 motherboard aimed at budget and mid-range Ryzen builds, but with a quite serious set of extras. It is based on the AMD A620 chipset and supports Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series processors, so you have an upgrade path. With DDR5 support up to 8000 MHz (OC) and four RAM slots, you can elevate the system for both gaming and work. The board combines modern interfaces – PCIe 4.0, several M.2 slots, and 2.5G LAN – without unnecessary embellishments that only raise the price.
What you get
Most importantly – a stable foundation for an AM5 build that does not lock you to one generation of CPU. With up to 256 GB DDR5 in 4 DIMM slots and dual-channel mode, you have enough capacity for heavy applications, virtual machines, or productivity, and the high frequencies up to 8000 MHz (OC) give room for more demanding configurations. The PCIe 4.0 x16 slot is ready for modern GPUs without causing a bottleneck from the motherboard side. For storage, you rely on 3 M.2 slots (two PCIe Gen4x4 and one Gen3x4) plus 2 x SATA3, which is more than enough for a fast NVMe for OS and several additional drives. The built-in 7.1 CH HD audio with Realtek ALC897 is okay for gaming and multimedia, while 2.5 Gigabit LAN provides higher network speed than standard 1G – useful for online gaming, NAS, and fast transfers.
- Socket AM5 with AMD A620 chipset allows you to use newer Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series processors and plan an upgrade within the same platform.
- Support for DDR5 memory with up to 256 GB in 4 slots and dual-channel mode provides serious resources for multitasking, working with large projects, and modern games.
- Maximum RAM frequency up to 8000 MHz (OC) gives the option to squeeze more performance from faster DDR5 kits if you want to tweak settings.
- One PCIe 4.0 x16 slot with 15μ gold contact in the VGA PCIe slot ensures stable contact and reliability for powerful GPUs during long operation and frequent moving.
- Three M.2 slots – 2 x Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) from CPU and 1 x Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3x4) from the chipset – allow you to combine many fast NVMe drives for OS, games, and projects.
- Two SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors with support for RAID 0, 1, 10 are convenient for larger HDD or SATA SSD arrays – for example, for backup or media library.
- Built-in 2.5 Gigabit LAN (10/100/1000/2500 Mb/s) is a step above standard 1G and is a plus for low latency in games and fast transfer in a local network.
- Rich set of USB: rear and front USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A and Type-C plus 8 x USB 2.0 gives you enough ports for peripherals, external drives, and case I/O.
- M.2 Socket (Key E) for WiFi/BT PCIe module allows you to easily add wireless connectivity if you need it later, although there is no built-in Wi-Fi from the factory.
Who it is suitable for
This board is suitable for budget and mid-range gaming machines, home and office configurations where you want AM5 and DDR5, but without paying for extras you won’t use. It is a good choice for systems with one main GPU, several NVMe drives, and stable wired networking. If you need many SATA devices, built-in Wi-Fi, or extreme overclocking, you may feel limitations here.
The combination of AM5 support for several generations of Ryzen, DDR5 up to 256 GB, and three M.2 slots makes ASRock A620AM PRO-A a very sensible foundation for a modern yet reasonably sized configuration. You get the features you need and an upgrade path without paying for unnecessary "flagship" additions.
