Description
Asrock B850 Pro-A AM5 is an ATX motherboard for AM5, aimed at a stable mid-range to high-end Ryzen build with future upgrade to Ryzen 9000. It combines the current AMD B850 chipset with DDR5 support up to 8000 MHz (O.C.) and a serious maximum of 256 GB RAM. Add to that a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for modern GPUs and a rich selection of M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs, and you get a platform that doesn't limit you in gaming or work. The board does not rely on built-in Wi-Fi, which is a plus if you prefer stable wired LAN and a separate Wi-Fi module of your choice.
What you get
The AM5 socket and support for Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series processors give you a long platform life – you can start with a more affordable CPU and later upgrade to a stronger model without changing the motherboard. The four DDR5 slots with dual-channel mode and a maximum capacity of 256 GB allow for heavy multitasking scenarios and serious work with virtual machines or content. With one Blazing M.2 PCIe Gen5x4 slot, two Gen4x4, and one Gen3x4, you can separate system disk, games, and work on separate NVMe SSDs without running out of fast positions. The PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for GPU ensures that even after the next graphics card upgrade, you won't have a bottleneck in terms of interface. And Dragon 2.5G LAN provides higher network bandwidth than standard 1G, which helps both for online gaming and transferring large files on a local network.
- Socket AM5 with support for Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series, giving you a clear path for future CPU upgrades without changing the platform.
- DDR5 memory with up to 4 slots, 256 GB maximum, and frequencies up to 8000 MHz (O.C.), suitable for high-end gaming and heavy productivity tasks.
- Dual-channel memory with four modules for higher bandwidth, which is felt in better FPS and faster reactions in RAM-intensive applications.
- 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for GPU plus an additional PCIe 4.0 x16 (x4), giving you flexibility for graphics cards and expansion cards without sacrificing speed.
- A total of 4 M.2 slots: 1 x Gen5x4, 2 x Gen4x4, and 1 x Gen3x4, so you can build a fast NVMe storage array for OS, games, and work.
- 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s with RAID 0/1/10 support, allowing either more capacity with multiple disks or a mirror copy for greater reliability.
- Built-in Dragon RTL8125BG 2.5G LAN (up to 2500 Mb/s) for faster and more stable wired connection, especially useful for online gaming and working with network resources.
- Rich I/O with USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C (rear), USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C (front), multiple USB 3.2 Gen1 and USB 2.0 ports, so you won't wonder where to plug in peripherals.
- Realtek ALC897 7.1-Channel HD audio, providing decent sound for gaming and multimedia without the mandatory need for a separate sound card.
- Power connectors 1 x 24-pin + 2 x 8-pin, allowing more stable power delivery to more serious Ryzen CPUs under load.
Who it is suitable for
This board is suitable if you plan a serious AM5 build for 1440p/4K gaming, streaming, or heavy productivity and want to have the option to upgrade to Ryzen 9000 later. It also fits for those who want a lot of fast storage – several NVMe SSDs plus a SATA array. If you care about built-in Wi-Fi from the motherboard, this is not the most convenient choice, and you will need to use a separate Wi-Fi module or card.
The most sensible thing here is the combination of AM5 + B850, PCIe 5.0 x16, Gen5 M.2, and powerful DDR5 support – a board you can confidently take today and upgrade around it for several more generations ahead.
