Description
ASUS ROG STRIX X870-F GAMING WIFI is an ATX motherboard for socket AM5, aimed at mid-to-high-end Ryzen builds with a focus on modern GPUs, fast DDR5 memory, and serious NVMe storage solutions. It is based on the AMD X870 chipset and supports the latest Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series processors. You get four slots for DDR5 with a capacity of up to 256 GB and support for up to 8000 MHz (OC), plus PCIe 5.0 x16 for graphics card and PCIe 5.0 M.2 for SSD. Add Wi-Fi 7, 2.5G LAN, and quality audio, and you have a motherboard around which you can confidently build a serious gaming or work build.
What you get
With this motherboard, you can combine the latest Ryzen AM5 CPUs with fast DDR5 memory in dual-channel mode, up to a total of 256 GB, which is comfortable not only for gaming but also for heavy multitasking, 3D work, and video. The four M.2 slots give you the option for massive NVMe space, as with Ryzen 9000/7000 you also get two PCIe 5.0 x4 slots for the fastest SSDs – ideal for large libraries of games, projects, and raw video. The main PCIe 5.0 x16 slot provides full bandwidth for modern GPUs, without worrying about limiting them. The built-in Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5Gb Ethernet cover both fast wireless and wired networks, while ROG SupremeFX audio with ALC4080 is more than enough for quality sound without an external DAC.
- Socket AM5 with AMD X870 chipset means support for Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series and a good base for long platform life.
- Four DIMM slots for DDR5 with a maximum of 256 GB and up to 8000 MHz (OC) provide room for simultaneously high frequencies and large capacity.
- Support for dual-channel memory increases actual bandwidth – important for FPS in games and faster rendering/compilations.
- Four M.2 slots, including up to PCIe 5.0 x4 for M.2_1 and M.2_2 with Ryzen 9000/7000, allow you to build entirely NVMe storage without classic SATA drives.
- Main PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for graphics card provides full bandwidth for high-end GPUs; an additional PCIe 4.0 x16 (x4) slot gives space for expansion cards.
- Built-in Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) and Bluetooth 5.4 save you the need for additional cards and adapters for modern wireless connectivity.
- ROG SupremeFX 7.1 audio with ALC4080, up to 32-bit/192 kHz and up to 120 dB SNR stereo playback provides clear sound for gaming, music, and streaming.
- 1 x 2.5Gb Ethernet LAN port is suitable for gaming with low ping and fast local transfers if you have a 2.5G router or switch.
- 2 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s with RAID 0/1/10 are sufficient for several older SSDs/HDDs in combination with the main NVMe array.
Who it is suitable for
This motherboard is a logical choice if you are aiming for a strong AM5 build – 1440p or 4K gaming, streaming, video editing, and 3D work, and want PCIe 5.0 for GPU and SSD. It is also suitable for people planning to upgrade to future Ryzen CPUs from the same socket. If you need an ultra-budget system or need many more SATA devices, it may be a bit of an “overkill”.
The combination of X870 chipset, PCIe 5.0 for graphics card and NVMe, fast DDR5, and Wi-Fi 7 makes the ASUS ROG STRIX X870-F GAMING WIFI a very stable foundation for a modern high-performance build that you won't replace soon.
