WD Ultrastar DC HC580 22TB Hard Drive, 3.5", 7200rpm, 512MB SATA3 6Gb/s - WUH722422ALE6L4

The WD Ultrastar DC HC580 with a capacity of 22 TB is a server-grade 3.5" hard drive aimed at heavily loaded systems – from NAS and storage servers to archival arrays. The 7200 rpm operating speed and the large 512 MB cache provide stable speeds for sequential and mixed workloads. The interface is standard SATA 6 Gb/s, making it easy to integrate into most modern platforms. The combination of high capacity and server class positions it as a solution for mid to high-end storage, where you need a lot of space in few U's.

What you get – huge volume and predictable behavior during 24/7 operation. 22 TB allows you to consolidate large backups, video surveillance, virtual machines, or extensive media libraries on a single drive, instead of juggling with several smaller ones. 7200 rpm means lower latency and higher transfer rates compared to typical “green” 5400 rpm drives, which is noticeable when copying large files and when accessed by many clients. With 512 MB cache, the disk controller can smooth out peak loads and keep request queues more manageable. The standard 3.5" form factor and SATA 6 Gb/s interface give you the freedom to use it in rack servers, tower machines, or more serious NAS enclosures.

• Capacity of 22 TB, allowing you to consolidate large data arrays into fewer physical drives.
• Server-type hard drive, designed for prolonged operation and loads typical for data center and enterprise environments.
• Speed of 7200 rpm, ensuring faster data access and higher throughput when working with large files.
• 512 MB cache memory, which reduces delays during burst loads and improves smoothness with multiple simultaneous requests.
• SATA 6 Gb/s interface, compatible with widely used controllers in servers, workstations, and NAS systems.
• Standard 3.5" form factor and dimensions of 146.7 x 101.6 x 26.1 mm, facilitating installation in most chassis.
• Long 60-month warranty, which is an important plus for drives used for critical data and long-term storage.

It is suitable for NAS units, file servers, backup solutions, and storage for virtualization, where capacity and reliability are more important than maximum random I/O as with SSDs. If you are looking for a drive primarily for a budget home PC just for gaming, this is rather overkill and there are more sensible smaller options.

The most sensible aspect here is the combination of 22 TB capacity, 7200 rpm mechanics, and a large 512 MB cache, backed by a 5-year warranty – a good foundation if you want serious, long-term storage without compromising on data density.
