Useful when choosing
Server video cards accelerate calculations that the processor performs slowly – training and running AI models, rendering, scientific simulations, and video processing. Such a card can replace many processor cores for suitable tasks and reduce hours of work to minutes. Here are professional cards from NVIDIA in server execution, with large memory capacity and passive cooling, designed for chassis with powerful ventilation.
How to choose
- Memory capacity. For AI models, the memory of the card is often more important than speed. The larger the model, the more memory it needs to fit entirely on the card.
- Cooling. Server cards with passive cooling do not have their own fans and rely on strong airflow in the server chassis. They are not suitable for a regular case.
- Size and slots. Check how many slots the card occupies and whether the chassis has space and suitable PCI Express slots for the required number of cards.
- Power consumption. Powerful cards require a power supply with sufficient wattage and the correct cables. With multiple cards, the server's power supply must be calculated with a margin.
- Software. Check the support for CUDA and the libraries you use, as well as the licenses for the video card virtualization, if you need them.
What to watch out for
- The passive card in a regular case will overheat – use a server chassis with appropriate airflow.
- Server cards usually do not have video outputs or have limited outputs.
- Check if the motherboard provides enough PCIe lanes for all cards.
- Update the drivers and firmware of the card to versions that support your software.
- For a workstation with a monitor, there are professional cards with active cooling in the video card category.
Compatibility and consultation
The card must be suitable for the chassis and motherboard – check server chassis and server motherboards. If you are building a system for AI or calculations, contact us – we will help with the selection of the card, power supply, and cooling, and the availability of specific models is confirmed upon request.
